The cultivation method for our root ball lettuce is a very sustainable process and our growers are passionate about it. Since 2007, Staay Food Group has partnered with Deliscious B.V. in Beesel (North Limburg).
Salatrio is our best-known root ball lettuce variety: this is three different types of lettuce in one root ball. Salatrio contains Lollo Rosso, Lollo Biondo and Oak leaf lettuce. This gives a lovely mix of intense colour and strong flavours. And because of the root ball, the lettuce is tastier and crunchier. In addition to the Salatrio with root ball, our partner Deliscious also grows the green and red Salanova with root ball.
Root ball lettuce is a lettuce with a small, clean ball of roots. In fact, the root ball does not have to be removed until the consumer is ready to use the product. After all, the roots are full of nutrients. This procedure means that the shelf-life of the lettuce is more than a week longer than that of ordinary lettuce.
Quality and sustainability always have top priority at Deliscious and Staay Food Group. Sustainable cultivation is also a continuous search for improvement. In the past few years we have made significant progress towards reducing our energy and water consumption. We also grow highly uniform lettuce plants that are less susceptible to pests and diseases. These aspects mean that we have a large number of supermarkets in the Netherlands and abroad in our customer base.
